Description
A FAMILLE-ROSE ‘BIRDS AND FLOWERS’ DISH
20TH CENTURY
粉彩花鸟纹盘
二十世纪
ESTIMATE: CAD 500 — 800
Description
This dish is designed with a broad, gently sloping rim and a shallow interior. The central medallion is delicately painted in a famille-rose palette, featuring a pair of birds perched amidst flowering branches. One bird is depicted with black and white plumage, while the other exhibits finely detailed grey and black feathers, both rendered with naturalist precision. The surrounding yellow-ground border is intermittently decorated with gilded floral sprays and four reserves containing stylized shell and foliate motifs. The reverse bears a four-character iron-red mark within a double square, reading Huaxuan Tang Zhi (Made for the Hall of Glorious Splendor), accompanied by a cautionary English inscription.
Diameter: 26.2cm (10.3in)
CONDITION REPORT
The dish is in generally good condition. The glaze exhibits a fine, intentional crackle pattern throughout the body. There is minor shelf wear to the unglazed foot rim and light surface wear to the gilding and enamel consistent with age.
