A SKY-BLUE GLAZED ‘DRAGON-EAR’ VASE
YONGZHENG PERIOD, QING DYNASTY
天蓝釉螭龙耳尊
清雍正
ESTIMATE: $3000~$5000
Description
This vase features a stout, rounded body with a wide, slightly waisted neck and a flared rim. The shoulders are adorned with two elegantly molded handles in the form of chilong (mythical dragons) biting a ring. The vessel is covered in an even, luminous sky-blue glaze (tianlanyou), which possesses a smooth, semi-matte finish and a delicate, serene tone. Two raised horizontal bands encircle the mid-section, providing a subtle structural rhythm to the form.
The interior and the base are applied with a similar pale blue glaze. The base bears a six-character reign mark in underglaze blue within a double circle, reading “Da Qing Yongzheng Nian Zhi” (Made during the Yongzheng Reign of the Great Qing Dynasty). The base has been historically pierced with a central hole, a common practice for converting such vessels into lamp bases in the early 20th century. The refined potting and the sophisticated quality of the monochrome glaze are characteristic of the imperial kiln productions during the Yongzheng period.
Height :28.5 cm (11.25in)
CONDITION REPORT
The vase is in stable condition with a historically pierced hole to the center of the base. The glaze remains vibrant with natural age-related surface wear and a few minor firing spots. The foot rim shows characteristic dark oxidation consistent with the period. No major cracks or restoration were observed under standard inspection.
