Description
This impressive blue and white “Phoenix-tail” vase (fengweizun) is a classic example of wedding or celebratory porcelain from the late Qing Dynasty. The vase features a tall, flared trumpet neck and a balanced, ovoid body. It is densely decorated with a continuous “sweet pea” or lotus scroll pattern (chanzhilian), characterized by scrolling vines and lush blossoms, symbolizing continuity and longevity.
The most prominent feature is the bold “Double Happiness” characters (shuangxi) interspersed within the floral scrolls on both the neck and the body. This motif was particularly popular during the Guangxu period, often commissioned for imperial weddings or as high-quality gifts for auspicious occasions. The base bears a four-character apocryphal mark in underglaze blue that reads “Chenghua Nian Zhi” (Made in the Chenghua years), a common practice in the 19th century to pay homage to the celebrated porcelain of the Ming Dynasty.

CONDITION REPORT
The vase is in overall good and stable condition. There are minor localized firing imperfections, including small iron spots and pinpricks in the glaze. The cobalt blue remains vibrant against the white ground. There is typical age-related wear and accumulated soil on the unglazed foot rim. No major cracks, chips, or signs of professional restoration were detected under standard examination.
