Description
This exceptional cylindrical jar and cover is vibrantly decorated with a continuous and spirited hunting scene in the famille rose palette. The composition depicts a group of hunters on horseback navigating a lush landscape of gnarled pine trees and rocky outcrops. The figures are captured in dynamic movement—some aiming bows, others galloping with spears—as they pursue fleet-footed deer and other prey. The domed cover is similarly decorated with landscape elements and floral sprays, surmounted by a bud-shaped finial.
The piece exemplifies the technical mastery of the Qianlong period, characterized by a refined enamel palette and sophisticated shading. The “hunting” theme, a favorite of the Manchu emperors, is rendered here with imperial-style precision. The interior and base are covered in a smooth, translucent glaze of high quality.
