Description
This exceptionally rare and finely crafted yellow jade bangle is a superb example of the “twisted rope” (wenshi) pattern, a hallmark of high-status ornamental jades from the Warring States period. The bangle is carved from a translucent, honey-colored yellow jade, meticulously worked into a continuous spiraling cord. The “rope” is formed by deeply incised, parallel diagonal grooves that wrap seamlessly around the circular body, creating a sense of dynamic tension and tactile rhythm.
The honey-toned jade exhibits an exquisite natural patina and is suffused with striking dark russet and chocolate-brown “mercury” inclusions and burial stains, which have penetrated deep into the stone over millenniums. The surface remains highly polished, exhibiting a warm, waxy luster that contrasts beautifully with the sharp, rhythmic geometry of the carving.
