The first bottle is of a slender cylindrical “sleeve” form, masterfully decorated in a vibrant famille-rose palette. It features a powerful imperial dragon amidst swirling clouds and stylized flames, executed with meticulous brushwork that highlights the creature’s majestic presence. The second bottle is of a compressed globular form, decorated in the wucai (five-color) style. It depicts a seated immortal in a landscape setting, rendered with the characteristic bold outlines and saturated enamels of the late Qing period. Both bottles exhibit the fine porcelain and translucent glazes typical of 19th-century ceramic production.

In the Qing dynasty, porcelain snuff bottles were highly prized for the versatility of their decorative themes. The dragon motif represents supreme authority and protection, while the depiction of an immortal evokes the literati’s yearning for spiritual transcendence and longevity. These two bottles, each representing a distinct school of overglaze enameling, offer a compelling study of the stylistic diversity found in 19th-century private collections. They serve as both functional containers and miniature canvases for the most celebrated icons of Chinese mythology.

CONDITION REPORT
• Condition: Both bottles are in overall very good condition. The enamels remain bright and stable. No chips, cracks, or restorations to either porcelain body. Minor natural surface wear and firing pinpricks consistent with age.
• 状况： 两件烟壶整体品相良好。色彩鲜艳，保存稳固。瓷胎经检测均无崩口、裂纹或修复迹象。见时代特征之极轻微表面磨损及自然窑针，符合其年代特征。
