DESCRIPTION
The bowl is robustly potted with deep rounded sides rising to a slightly flared rim, supported on a sturdy circle foot. The interior and exterior are fluently painted in an underglaze copper-red of a soft, muted tone. The main decorative bands feature scrolling peony sprays, with lush blossoms and characteristic “crab-claw” leaves. The rims are bordered with classic fret (thunder) patterns. The glaze has a subtle celadon-white tint with a fine network of natural crackles. The unglazed base reveals a fine-grained body with characteristic orange-red “iron spots” (huoshihong) from the firing process.

EXPERT ANALYSIS
The layout of the scrolling peony and key-fret patterns on this vessel represents the standard aesthetic paradigm of the late 14th to early 15th century. During the early Ming Dynasty, controlling the reduction atmosphere within the kilns was extremely difficult, which frequently resulted in this stable, “grey-red” or “dark brown” coloration. This is further evidenced by its flat base, the presence of orange-red oxidation (huoshihong) on the unglazed areas, and the specific texture of the porcelain body.
此器缠枝牡丹和回纹的布局是14世纪晚期至15世纪初的标准范式。 明代早期窑炉还原气氛控制极难，常呈现这种沉稳的“灰红色”或“深褐色”发色。 其底部平整、露胎处呈现的火石红及胎质的质感均体现了这一时期的典型工艺特征。
