This elegant pair of vases is masterfully potted, each featuring a slender, elongated neck rising gracefully from a robust, globular body, supported by a slightly tapered ring foot. The exterior is enveloped in a deep, lustrous sacrificial blue glaze (jilan), characterized by its rich, even, and intense cobalt-blue tone. The glaze is thick and smooth, exhibiting a brilliant “orange-peel” texture under close inspection, which adds a subtle tactile depth to the monochromatic surface.
The interior of the neck and the base are finished with a translucent white glaze, showing a faint bluish-white tint. The unglazed foot rim reveals a fine, compact white paste, demonstrating the high-quality porcelain production of the Kangxi imperial kilns. Each base is inscribed with a six-character reign mark in underglaze blue regular script (kaishu) reading Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi.

The Kangxi reign marked a significant revival in the production of high-fired monochrome glazes. Among these, the Jilan (sacrificial blue) glaze was particularly revered, as it was historically used in imperial ritual ceremonies at the Altar of Heaven. This pair of vases exemplifies the technical mastery of the period, achieving a perfect balance between the saturated cobalt pigment and the brilliant transparency of the glaze.
Finding matching pairs of such quality is increasingly rare. Achieving an identical hue across two separate firings required precise control of the kiln’s temperature and reduction atmosphere. The minimalist “bottle” form highlights the purity of the blue glaze, reflecting the sophisticated aesthetic of the Qing court. • Condition: Overall in excellent condition. The cobalt remains vibrant and the glaze retains its original brilliance. Minor firing imperfections consistent with the period, including small pinpricks and iron spots localized to the interior of the neck. No cracks, chips, or restorations detected under UV light.
